While I’m no stranger to the internet, I had a question on how people normally reach out to you here.
Basically a fellow messaged me being interested in my translation works and left a phone number to talk to the project manager- I’m of course a little wary of this, and I did ask further questions but oddly enough (or perhaps predictably) the messenger only answered the first parts of my messages and seemingly disregarded the other parts, which were actually quite pertinent to what I was being asked to do, and just ended it with contacting the project manager directly via the phone number.
Is this really the norm here? Excuse me for my ignorance, but I think in this day and age a little bit of doubt saves a lot of trouble on the long run. I also couldn’t view this fellow’s profile to really suss out anything either, does this function not exist where one can view the background info of a prospective employer?
Another thing to note is that I did finish off with “I want to keep all communications in Xolo for the sake of posterity, and due to the fact that I’m a new user” which… Actually went disregarded. Which is why I’m even more dubious.
Hi there @hanguleesk, welcome the the community.
Thanks for reaching out with this matter. I also received this message myself. Unfortunately we’ve been victim of a smaller spam attack Unknown users are reaching out and sending links through chat messages, exactly like the ones you and I have received. We’re working on it and hope to have this solved shortly.
Thanks for being alert and reacting to the odd messaging behaviour. The behaviour you’re describing is definitely not the norm and not at all a representation of the tone, culture and community we’re trying to foster within and between Xolo and it’s users.
To anyone else who’ve received a message in the past 24h along the lines of “I was wondering if you might be available for my project, as you seem very suitable. The job involves translating. Please contact the Project Manager via WhatsApp at (phone number) for more information on the job.” please do not engage. It’s spam and we’re working on a fix as we speak.
Have a wonderful start to the week and thanks again for reaching out
